October 2009 .........  What WAS new last month

The lines at Zeke's Coffee at the Baltimore's Farmer's Market are always long. You'll find Mark Supik waiting in that line just about every Sunday. Zeke's coffee gets us moving every morning at the shop and we also brew it for our woodturning classes on the weekends. We were happy to be asked to make and label these custom coffee urn tap handles for Zeke's market stand.

Traditional Building Show Baltimore hosted the Traditional Building Show in October and Mark Supik & Co. welcomed a busload of architects, builders and historic restoration enthusiasts from the conference for a morning tour organized by Baltimore Heritage. Demonstrations included spindle copying, turning wooden columns, producing curved moldings and plaster casting.

Howard County Woodworkers Guild 20 members of the Howard County Woodworkers Guild spent the morning at Mark Supik & Co. watching woodturning demonstrations. Some members even 'took a turn' on the shop's vintage lathe, then we all enjoyed lunch from Dipasquale's, our local Italian deli.

Baltimore Beer Week In addition to sampling hundreds of great microbrews in Baltimore's many pubs, this year, beer enthusiasts had an opportunity to watch tap handles being made at Mark Supik & Co. Tour visitors watched wooden tap handles turned on the copy lathe, saw urethane casting and took a guided tour through the beer tap museum with Nancy. Many home brewers were interested in the custom tap handles for kegerators and in taking woodturning classes to make your own beer taps. Read more about the tour here=> Beer in Baltimore Blog

Mosaic Artist, Cinder Hypki, asked us to build custom wooden frames for these beautiful mosaics created for the St. Paul School for Girls. Visit Cinder's website to see more pictures of the mural and of her other projects around the country.
