Our 2026 Winter Class Schedule
 

About our classes… On Friday and Saturdays, our Baltimore woodturning shop becomes a woodturning school. Our students include hobbyists, artists, and tradespeople. Some are enthusiastic beginners, others experienced turners ready to improve their skills. We provide each student with safety equipment, an individual lathe and set of tools to use during the workshop. All project materials are included in the cost of the class. Class size is limited to seven students.

The cost for the all day workshop (8:30 AM - 4 PM) is $200, includes project materials, lunch and snacks)
Half Day classes are $100
Parking provided.

There's a 10% discount for students who are members of the AAW or a local woodworking club.  See our list of local clubs.

The Introduction to Woodturning. All Day Class. Get comfortable with the lathe and learn spindle turning in this all day workshop designed for beginners. Starting with basic tool use, learn the between center woodturning techniques used by professional turners for centuries for spindle production. Have fun applying the bead & cove cuts to create eggs, key fobs, honey dippers and more. This class is a pre-requisite for the Bowl Turning Fundamentals Class. $200 includes lunch.

Bowl Turning Fundamentals. All Day Class. Using green wood from recently downed local trees, move from log to bowl in one day. Safe use of the lathe and tools and basic bowl turning technique in the morning, then choose your log, turn and finish a bowl. Introduction to Woodturning or prior woodturning experience is a prerequisite for this class. $200 with lunch.

Tool Sharpening (half day)

Learn to sharpen your gouges using a grinding wheel and a hone in this half day workshop. Introduction to Woodturning or prior woodturning experience is a prerequisite for this class. Bring your own tools or practice on ours. Open studio hours available in the afternoon.

Using the Skew (half day)

Learn to use the skew tool. Introduction to Woodturning or prior woodturning experience is a prerequisite for this class. Bring your own tools or use ours. Open studio hours available in the afternoon.

Open Studio Hours (and Bowl Blanks).
Most Fridays (and often on Wednesdays!) our shop lathes are available for returning students. Although there is no direct instructions, Mark will be available to answer questions and provide guidance. Bowl blanks are always available for sale and we have plenty of wood scraps available for small projects and practice pieces.
